Spring has sprung, and things are getting hot in the studio!
First, La Mas Collective are warming up to bring us the fire stylings of Boxed In at Fringe. You can see it on page 59 of the official Melbourne Fringe program, and right here at Victoria University – the production team are seeking a test audience to watch the show in the last few weeks of rehearsal (before our 28th September opening night). If you want an exclusive sneak preview before our hot, messy bump in to Scratch, make sure you email us, or message our Facebook page, before September 15th.
Free stuff is good. We’re running free improv sessions throughout Arts Week, drop-in style and designed for beginners. This idea has been bubbling under the surface all year, so we are super excited to finally bring this opportunity to students who might be new to theatre or are seeking a crash-course in a less rigid acting style.
Improvisational acting workshops often cost hundreds of dollars over several sessions. We want to support students in developing the professional skills (and personal growth) that come from learning to improvise. Companies and law firms shell out thousands every year for training that lasts a lifetime, so we want to give you a head start on the competition!
For dates & times, make sure you get onto the Facebook event, stat.
Improv workshops will run at Footscray Park in conjunction with What the Fete?, a student-run arts market starting 11am on Wednesday, 16th September. We encourage performance-minded students to come along to the stalls, have a chat or perhaps apply for their own stall. Our beloved Boxed In crew will be there – but if you miss them, they blog regular updates on the show’s progress. We are keen on extra pairs of hands to get involved with bump in (and out) for this amazing show, so if you like to lift stuff and drink post-show bubbly, tell us!
To come: our annual general meeting, and a new Big West Festival show.
